In my art I use a great deal of typography, and the skill and consistency that Jasper Johns wields in his Numbers Series is astounding. It has particularly inspired me to bring more varied colors into my work, and consider the possibility of a more free flowing method. His work has proved to me that the consistency of lettering and quality of work can still be achieved with a looser style, that I had not considered before. By adding this to my repertoire, it would also add texture to the usually flat signs and give any light shapes to bounce off of which could have interesting results. An iconic American artist, Jasper Johns, defined the space between Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. He employs an interesting mix of scultural paintings and readymade art. He currently continues to work in Sharon, CT.

The art of Michelle Basic Hendry speaks to me because of her focus on dilapidated and decaying buildings, which is where I started out when I began drawing seriously. I appreciate her focus on the exaggerated composition and overall style that keeps the paintings from being photo realistic, but still making them have a high level of realism. In order to get her art seen in galleries, Hendry developed relationships with a handful of galleries and organizations and had repeat exhibitions with them. Although she does not have a wide range of galleries supporting her work, the ones that do helped Hendry get opportunities and allowed her name to grow overtime.
The work Robert Caldwell has always left me astounded; the fine details of every aspect make his work look so real that it looks unreal. Every time I walk into his studio and see the pieces he was hanging on the wall I am inspired by both his craft and attention to composition. He creates pieces using both graphite and oil paint layering them to create great depth and to create distinct values.
Steven Glass creates beautiful ceramics and teaches classes at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is the Resident Potter there. Recently he created a bowl that was used to break the tie breaker of the 94th house delegate district, but going further back he was the artist in residence at Rufford Craft Center in England and has solo exhibitions in the Republic of Korea and England. He has also published numerous articles that have been published.
